Any room will benefit from a strategically placed, carefully restored antique trunk. They provide value as a handy source of storage, an eye-catching piece of furniture and even a place to sit.
In days past the trunks that are taking pride of place in lounge rooms were simply pieces of luggage to hold personal belongings such as clothes during long and arduous voyages and trips. The trunks were made to last, built to withstand the unavoidable knocks and bumps that occur during loading and unloading and whilst in transit.
Because it was often the richer class people who were able to afford the cost of travel, many trunks were beautifully adorned with detailed carving or engravings. Some were covered with rich leather finishes or were painted, sometimes by a noted artist.
Buying an antique trunk, such as Gothic trunks or dome top trunks, will allow you to decorate a room in your house with a valuable piece of history as well as a means of gaining more storage space. Not only is the trunk an attractive piece of furniture it could have a fascinating history attached to it.
